The electric car investment process in Turkey, which started with Chinese BYD, now continues with a battery factory. Accordingly, Ganfeng Lithium, one of the world’s largest battery manufacturers, has decided to invest in Turkey.
A giant step of 500 million dollars for electric car batteries
Turkey continues to attract the attention of the Chinese electric car industry. After BYD, Chinese giant battery manufacturer Ganfeng Lithium has decided to establish a joint battery factory with Yiğit Akü. In the announcement made by Yiğit Akü on its X account, the terms of the strategic cooperation framework agreement with Ganfeng LiEnergy, a subsidiary of Ganfeng Lithium, were revealed.
Accordingly, the Chinese company plans to establish a lithium battery production facility with a capacity of 5 GWh in Turkey. The facility will produce lithium battery cells such as 100Ah, 280Ah and 314Ah. Ganfeng Lithium will invest 500 million dollars for the battery factory. Accordingly, Ganfeng LiEnergy and Yiğit Akü will establish a joint venture company.
This partnership has already conducted feasibility studies for the battery factory. The total closed area of the factory will be 132,220 square meters. The total equipment investment of the factory to be established in this giant area will be around 200 million dollars. According to the first details, 400 people will work in the factory. The production facility will also include an R&D center and a technical training center.
Yiğit Akü has not yet announced the location of the factory in its statements. Ganfeng Lithium is one of the largest lithium mine operators in China and one of the few lithium mine operators in the world. The company, which also supplies batteries to brands such as Tesla and BMW, seems to have chosen Turkey as the new center for battery production.
The lithium ion batteries planned to be produced in this facility will not only be used for electric cars. It will provide important support for domestic batteries in many areas from industry to the end user.
